Here are our top tips to secure your dream job in 2019:
Attention to detail is key
The first thing a recruiter and hiring manager looks at is your resume. This is formative in making their first impression of you. There should be absolutely no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Always get someone to proofread it when you are finished tailoring it for your application.
Relevant and measurable content
The content in your resume should be relevant to the role. Ensure the information you have included is measurable and specific. For example, tech companies are interested in setting goals and measuring progress so if you can show that you have an analytical mind and are used to measuring progress, this will help you stand out from the competition.
Do your research
You should be researching the company, and other people doing the role you are going to be interviewing for as soon as possible. Having this information will allow you to answer the most common question candidates are asked – ‘Why do you want to work here?’. If you can give concise answers that draw on the company culture of current projects, it will show your interest in the job and the company. It is also worthwhile researching your interviewer.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail
The amount of preparation you put in will determine how well you interview and how far you can set yourself apart from the competition. Carefully prepare in order to set yourself up for success.
While interviews do need to be formal to an extent, don’t forget that the person interviewing you is potentially going to be your colleague, so where it allows; let your personality shine through. A lot of companies hire on cultural fit as much as they do on a person’s technical ability.
